Dear Friends,
Ah, Easter! It's a time for flowers and the warmth that comes with the arrival of spring. It's a time for bunnies and chicks, for Easter eggs, candies and cards. It's a wonderful time!
Alas, this year, since Easter arrives so early, that the intimations of springtime and its warm are likely to be a remote possibility in this part of the world. But we're not alone. Did you know that more than half of the world's Christians (I mean active Christians and not just hereditary Christians) live south of the equator? For them Easter brings fall-less sunlight, cooler weather, longer nights, fewer flowers and newborn animals, the rainy season and more floods. How in the world can the Christians in those parts celebrate Easter under those conditions!
With all due respect to card companies, florists and candy manufacturers, which need support as much as ever in a sparse economic climate, this year, Easter was never meant to be about all those things, anyway. It's about one thing -- the passion and resurrection of God's Son, Christ Jesus, our Lord.
As I mentioned recently, God demonstrated His passionate love for us by living for us as we live, and then dying for us as we die. God's undying love for us couldn't die, though, and so Christ came back to life. That's how much God loves us - how much God is in love with us and has been since He made us. I find that to be amazing and utterly good news. And that's why we celebrate Holy Week as we do with such passion and joy. Please join us for those celebrations of God's passionate and undying love.
March 16 - Palm Sunday:7:15, 8:30 and 10:30 am - Holy Eucharist with Blessing of PalmsBlessed Holy Week and Happy Easter!
