September 2009
While the children were out of school for the summer, preparations were being made for the incoming classes in the fall. We had locks installed on the downstairs fire doors at each end of the hall. They will be locked while the nursery school classes are in session. We will have a buzzer that parents may ring to be let in if they need to pick up their child early or if they are coming in to volunteer during class time. This will further insure the safety of all the children in our care. We also had a classroom floor retiled that was very old, dark and had many broken and mismatched tiles. This room now looks brighter and much more inviting and is in keeping with our other classrooms. The nursery school took on the expense of these projects and I’m sure you will agree that they were well worth the money. Our next project is to construct some sort of platform outside the windows that have the fire ladders, which were installed last year, to conform to the fire code. When the children exit these windows, it would be nice to have something solid to stand on (brick or stone etc,) so the children won’t have to make their way through the brush, weeds and mud during our required fire drills.
On September 14th, St. Paul’s Nursery School will open its doors for the new school year and welcome over 70 preschoolers and their parents. This year for our 4 year old program we will have two 5 day classes and one 4 day class in the morning and one 4 day class in the afternoon. For our 3 year old program we will have two 3 day classes and two 2 day classes in the morning. I am fortunate this year to have my entire, wonderfully caring, experienced and dedicated staff return for 2009-2010. Many thanks go out to Bill Healey and Priscilla Foley for getting our classrooms, halls and entryway looking good for the beginning of school. Thanks also to the numerous parent volunteers who gave up a summer day to work in our playground, raking and weeding, so the play area would be clean and look great for our first day of school. We are off to a good start! It should be an exciting and very busy year.
God Bless, Linda
