After 50 years of existence as a preschool, the “school bells” will ring again on September 10 to welcome children from North Kingstown, Exeter, East Greenwich, Jamestown, South Kingstown and Warwick. This year we have 65 children enrolled in the preschool programs. There are a total of 43 four year olds (16 of whom are returning from last year’s three year old program) and 22 three year olds. We are offering an afternoon class for four year olds this year for the first time in the school’s history.

We are fortunate this year to have most of our wonderfully caring staff returning. Mary Pellegrino has left to continue her career in nursing, and Lynn Varone, who was placed with us last year by the NK School Department, will be joining our staff this year. Our staff is as follows:

Our focus for September will be getting the children used to a school schedule, easing the transition from home to the classroom, and helping the children to get to know each other. We will work on sharing, taking turns, and listening to each other and to the teachers. We will review the number one, the circle shape, and the colors brown and red. Of course, what would September be without a unit on apples? We will listen to stories about John Chapman, “Johnny Appleseed”. We will color, cut, paint, paste, count, taste and graph different kinds of apples. Sounds like fun!
