February 2007
After a much deserved Christmas recess, we returned to school on January 2 and began our winter unit. We learned about winter weather and how animals adapt to the change in climate. We also had a unit on the five senses and an All About Me unit. We continue learning our numbers and began introducing the alphabet letters and sounds. Also this month the Audubon Society came to visit our three-year old classes with a presentation based on the book, The Mitten, which the children thoroughly enjoyed.
During January we had our annual visit from Child Outreach and SORICO, who came to our school to screen the children in vision, hearing, speech and developmental readiness. This is a free service, and we usually get great feedback with these screenings.
Registration is in full swing. Deposits for next September are beginning to come in. We are adding a three-day three-year old program to the morning session for next year. In order to do this and maintain our maximum 48 children at any given time that we are grandfathered for, we will have to move one of the four-year old classes to the afternoon. Several parents have expressed interest in this time slot, so hopefully it will be successful. We should know by the beginning of February how many spots are left to fill for next year.
