St. Paul’s Nursery School, a ministry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, provides high quality, affordable, early learning education to preschool children from the surrounding communities. Our goal is to help young children develop a basic foundation of Christian values, social skills and love of learning that empowers them to grow into successful students and good citizens.
St. Paul's Nursery School was founded in Wickford, Rhode Island in 1956. It is a developmentally appropriate morning preschool program for 3 and 4 year olds. Fully licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Education, our teachers are certified and have over 50 years of combined teaching experience. Our student-teacher ratio is 12:1 (9:1 for 3 yr. olds ) We offer an extended day "Lunch Program" for the 4 yr. olds. *New for 2007*, A four day afternoon preschool program for 4 year olds (see Program Offerings below)
A look inside one of our preschool classrooms could prompt a parent to wonder what their child is learning, since it appears as though they are just playing. Well, they are playing; however, a child's work is play.
Here at St. Paul's children learn by doing. Young children learn best by participating in a variety of hands-on, developmentally appropriate activities incorporated into a structured routine. Through these well-planned activities, your children will begin to acquire skills in all developmental areas.
Developmental areas include:- Gross Motor (running, climbing, jumping, etc.)
- Fine Motor (coloring, cutting, Play Doh. painting, tracing, construction, personal care, etc.)
- Language (literacy, singing, conversation, dramatic play, etc.)
- Social/Emotional (sharing, turn taking, cooperative play, etc.)
- Cognitive (counting, numbers, shapes, colors, letters, puzzles, etc.)
Within our daily routine your child will practice all of these skills. Working alongside their peers and with the teachers acting as guides, children are given the opportunity to explore the preschool environment, independently. This allows them to work at skills at their own developmental level, so that emerging skills can be refined slowly and naturally.

We offer:
- A five day morning preschool program for 4 year olds and a two or three day program for 3 year olds.
- An Extended Day Lunch Program for 4 yr. olds. This program is a lunch and activity program. Activities include Outdoor Play, Messy Arts and Crafts, Creative Play and Group Activities.
- A four day afternoon preschool program for 4 year olds, Monday to Thursday 12:30 - 3:00.

Afternoon preschool 12:30-3:00 (Mon. - Thur.)
The Nursery School will be closed whenever the North Kingstown Public Schools
are closed or delayed due to inclement weather.
