From the Director of Liturgy and Music
Mark Steinbach, DMA
Organist and Choirmaster
We have a great season planned for the music ministry at St. Paul’s this year. St. Paul’s Parish Choir will be singing Michaelmas Evensong Sunday October 2 at 5:00pm at St. Paul’s Church. The Festival of Advent Lessons and Carols, December 11 at 4:00pm will include St. Paul’s Parish, Children’s and Youth Choirs with guest musicians. All of the choirs will be singing services Christmas Eve and the Parish Choir will sing a full choral mass setting. Taking part in worship at St. Paul’s through the Choir is a spiritual practice, and a great way of expanding your meditation life, making new friends, and getting to know some great music of the church. If you would like to join the Parish Choir or if you play an instrument, please contact me either at the music office at 294-4357, ext. 106 or by email , and we can schedule an audition. The Parish Choir welcomes high school students, and can count as a Community Service option. The Parish Choir rehearses Sundays at 8:55AM and Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:30pm.
A heartfelt Thank You to Rozanne Fuller who is retiring from the Children’s Choir. Rozanne has conducted the youth and/or children’s choir for over six years. Thank you Rozanne for sharing your expertise, patience, enthusiasm and talent! Maria Hyde is also retiring from her position as Director of St. Paul’s Youth Choir. Thank you Maria for bringing your enthusiasm, talent, and knowledge to this group!
VOLUNTEERS WANTED!Both St. Paul’s Children’s and Youth Choirs are reforming for the fall. If you have musical gifts and are interested in helping out with directing or accompanying, please contact me! The Choirs follow the curriculum of the Royal School of Church Music, which teaches choristers musicreading skills, good vocal production, team-work, and spiritual formation. Both St. Paul’s Children’s Choir (1st through 3rd grades) and Youth Choir have rehearsed Sundays after church school and sing periodically throughout the year. Parents—is this the best time for rehearsal, or would you prefer a mid-week rehearsal? Any feedback welcome.
We had some wonderful worship moments in the ONC this summer thanks to some of our very talented musicians including Pat Petersen, Rozanne Fuller, and Joe and Bonnie Smith.
Looking forward to a great year!
Peace,
Mark
