From the Director of Liturgy and Music

Mark Steinbach, DMA
Organist and Choirmaster

Thank you to all choir members, choir parents, instrumentalists and parishioners who support the music ministry at St. Paul’s! The choirs went “all out” this year with brass, strings, timpani, to present Mozart’s “Kleine Orgelmesse” in C, and the bombastic “Light’s glittering morn bedecks the skies,” by Horatio Parker.

I would like to personally thank the parish choir who led the sung liturgies throughout Holy Week, not just Easter Day. A big thank you to Walter Burrows, Tina Butler, Susan Cerullo, Jill Clement, Ryan Cranston, Teattya Cranston, Gail Cyr, Camilla deRochambeau, Marianne Goodrich, Mary B. Hall, Diane Hoffman, Dora Martorelloi, Norm Poulin, Eleano Ricci, Jennifer Roe, Carrie Scheff, Fran Schroff, Diane Slader and Tom Spink. These folk give of their time and energy to develop their talents to share in worship and truly deserve our gratitude. Special thanks to our concertmaster/1st Violin Pat Petersen who so willingly gives of her talents! Mr. Jessye-Ray Leich is our talented drummer at 8:30 services. Don’t we appreciate his amazing talent!

Thank you to Rozanne Fuller for conducting the children’s and youth choirs at the Old Narraganssett Church on Easter Day. They braved the chilly elements to lead the worship with Joe and Bonney Smith and their wonderful instrumental ensemble “Updyke Rose.” These children also joined forces with choirs from Trinity Church, Newport, St. Paul’s, Pawtucket, St. Luke’s, East Greenwich, Grace Church, Rumford and St. Martin’s Church, Providence for our Evensong Festival in April Kudos to the parents of these children, who are willing to commit to the weekly rehearsals and develop their children’s talents for the Church. Ask any of them: it is not just about making music. It’s also about learning history, how to accomplish something together which is larger than anyone could do by him or herself and appreciating different cultures. Thank you to Michaela Bergwall, Sophie Brown, John DeRochambeau, Sophia Fusco, Elizabeth Fusco, Ellie Gettman, Emma Gettman, Gregory Hammick, Hailey Hammick, Peter Kershaw, Andrea Winter, Jasper White, Michael White, Andrew Zesk, Kristine Szrom, and Peter Kershaw.

St. Paul’s youth and children’s choirs will be presenting our annual concert at St. Elizabeth Center in East Greenwich, Thursday, May 24, at 4:30 pm followed by our ice cream party! Everyone is welcome to attend this fun concert which includes a sing-along.

The parish choir is preparing for Trinity Sunday Evensong which will take place June 3 at the Old Narraganssett Church at 7 pm. We will also be singing Evensong at The Cathedral of St. John, in Providence, June 10 at 4 pm. We hope to see you there!

Blessings,

Mark
