From the Director of Liturgy and Music

Mark Steinbach, DMA
Organist and Choirmaster

Many thanks to Rebecca Brown for your powerful rendering of the narrator part for the choir’s presentation of “Saul,” on the feast of the conversion of St. Paul. This contemporary setting was written by Norwegian composer Egil Hovland. Also thanks to those instrumentalists who have recently given of their time and talents: Pat Petersen, Richard Whaley, Sam Fuller and Perry Haynsworth.

We had over 40 children and youth from across the state for our midwinter rehearsal for the upcoming statewide Evensong we are hosting Sunday, April 29 at 4 pm at St. Paul’s. There will be a Friday rehearsal April 27 at 4:15 with all choirs present. What an exciting opportunity to sing with others from various choirs and work with five different choir directors from various Episcopal Churches! Please contact me or Rozanne Fuller if you have a child 1st grade or older who would like to participate; it’s not too late to join up! The Youth and Children’s Choirs will also be singing Easter Day service at the Old Narragansett Church at 8:30 am.

The Parish Choir is busily learning some wonderful Lenten music including the “O vos omnes” by Spanish/Puerto Rican adopted composer Pablo Casals. He is perhaps better known as a cellist, but also wrote some great music for the church during his long exile from Franco’s Spain.

A blessed Lent to all,

Mark
