From the Director of Liturgy and Music

Mark Steinbach, DMA
Organist and Choirmaster

“Forgive our sins as you forgive” you taught us, Lord, to pray; but you alone can grant us grace to live the words we say.” Rosamond E. Herklots

March 1st marks the beginning of Lent this year. Gone from the liturgy of the Church are the sung and spoken Alleluias and Gloria in excelsis. The 10:30 Liturgy adds the triparte Trisagion from the ancient Greek Liturgy, and the 8:30 service will sing the contemporary hymn “Forgive our sins,” as the song of praise throughout Lent.

Consider walking the road of Lent by participating in one of the choirs! The Lenten musical repertoire is one of the richest traditions of the Church. The Children’s and Youth choirs will be preparing for their participation in the Easter celebration at the Old Narragansett Church. We are also revving up for the Diocesan youth choir Evensong April 30. It’s not too late to join us!

The Parish Choir is rehearsing Holy Week music including motets by Durufle, Lasso and Bruckner. In our ongoing celebration of Mozart’s 250th birthday, we will be offering a setting of the Mass by Mozart for choir, organ and strings on Easter Day at the 10:30 Festal Eucharist.

Thanks to members of the Parish Choir who participated in Bishop Wolf’s 10th anniversary celebration. The Parish Choir is also planning another trip to New York City to sing at Grace Church on Broadway (yes - we sing on Broadway!!!). Join up now!!

Peace,

Mark
