From Inside the Collar
Thomas may have a hard time believing Jesus is risen. He has a lot of company!
But, he comes anyway.
He doesn't let fear, or disbelief stand in his way. Maybe he is just curious-great! Follow through, follow up, get the data, just keep going! That is how we learn, by asking and trying. Maybe he just trusts his friends and goes to see what the heck they are talking about-great! We all love our friends who call out the best in us. That is one of the beautiful ways God loves us is through our friendships. Jesus loved his friends. He loves us.
Whatever Thomas' motivations, whatever our motivations, they are just a place to start. In spite of his doubts, concerns, danger...he came! And to Thomas, who put himself out there, is given the highest honor of the gospels: Thomas is the only one who calls Jesus, "God."
Through your fear, "come and see". Touch his pain and know he knows yours. He is risen. Do you dare to be?
Loaves & Fishes RI
Hooray, it’s May, almost! With more seasonable weather, life is somewhat easier for our homeless clients at the Emmanuel House shelter. But somewhat easier doesn’t translate as easy. We are always amazed at the good cheer and thanks with which the men greet us, and it is a gift to us to be able to give them a meal that they truly enjoy—our now well-known hot meatball sandwiches, desserts, chips, fruit, juice, HB eggs, string cheese, granola bars, hot chocolate & coffee, and more Thank you, caring people of St. Paul’s, for helping to bring some pleasure and nutrition into these challenging lives.
