(On Palm Sunday there will be Sunday School for children through 4th grade, Older children are encouraged to attend services with their families.)
“I tell you the truth, whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 24:40
During Lent this year, this is the focus of the Sunday School. Through various projects, we are emphasizing the importance of helping others. The children are learning that there are families around them in North Kingstown and in the world that are less fortunate, and that Jesus’ teachings emphasize the importance of helping those in need.
- We’ve made Valentines for homebound parishioners and veterans. Thank you to the LEMs and Evie Moder for delivering them.
- The confirmation class is involved in painting the downstairs of the Parish House for the Sunday School and Nursery School.
- We’re keeping the people of Haiti in our thoughts and prayers during Lent. We learned all about life in this country, the third poorest in the world. Thank you to Kim Smith for coming in and speaking to us about her upcoming trip to visit and work at a mission. We’re looking forward to your return visit to update us on your trip.
- We’ve encouraged the youth to help those in need. Some suggestions were to collect foods for the Food Pantry, be kind to others, etc. These are small projects that they can do at home with their families.
The Confirmation class is gearing up for their final push before their Confirmation in May. We will have several guest speakers in March, as well as our final clergy-led class. The focus is on their decision on becoming a Christian in the Episcopal Church. The speakers will show how being a Christian affects their life, and how they have used their faith to get through struggles or in their everyday job. Thank you to Kim Smith and Mimi Sammis, who have agreed to speak with these youths.
The fifth grade Emmaus class is continuing with their special curriculum. Over the next couple of months, this class will begin to meet with the clergy and start their journey with the Church and God that continues through their confirmation in tenth grade. Attendance is strongly encouraged, so that they do not miss important classes and activities. For the last couple of years, we have moved their special service to Youth Sunday in May. This allows the whole congregation to enjoy this wonderful service and showcase how amazing our St. Paul’s youth truly are.
We’re looking forward to a very busy Lenten season. Friends are always welcome. It’s never too late to sign up; don’t miss out on the fun.
