"Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me." - Mark 9:37
As spring arrives, we’re always reminded of new life - the joys of the blooming of the crocus and daffodils, the awakening of the perennials long hidden under the snow, the return of the songbirds. Spring in New England is an amazing experience. Teaching children about God is a similar experience. They have so much excitement for the stories they hear. They love sharing their creations and singing their favorite songs. Their enthusiasm makes God come alive for all of us. I encourage all adults to come and share in the joys of the youth. See God through their eyes, and feel the excitement of the new life in God’s world.
Twelve Tenth Graders will be confirmed on May 7 at the Cathedral in Providence. Congratulations to all these youth. You have worked very hard over the past 1 ½ years to reach this decision. We are very proud of you. Thank you to Peggy Todd and Doug MacPherson for leading this group on this journey. On May 22, these youth will be recognized at the 10:30 service. At that time, they will be presented with a copy of the Book of Common Prayer by the Church.
Father Phil has been meeting with the Fifth Graders to discuss the meaning of communion. During the year, we’ve been working with the children to develop a deeper understanding of the Church and God. These children are preparing for their service, where they take on the roles of the service, such as crucifer, ushers, greeters. They are learning these things as a way to mature in their walk with Christ. Frequently in the past, participants in this service have gone on to become active acolytes and readers in our Church. On May 22, these youth will actively participate in the service. This is an event they have worked all year for, and we encourage everyone to come and worship with them as they see God through new eyes on their "road to Emmaus".
The children will be celebrating Earth Day on May 15. On that day, they will learn the importance of protecting and caring for God’s Earth. We will be planting flowers and cleaning up the flower beds around the Parish House. Any donations of flowers or shade loving plants will be gladly accepted. More information will come home closer to the date.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the children and youth at St. Paul’s. Come and visit, and feel the excitement of God’s love here in our youth.
