What are we trying to teach in Church School?
There are many different levels of learning for the youth at St. Paul’s. Children become involved with the school as young as one year of age. Church School continues through the 10th Grade Confirmation class. Although the depth of the lesson may change as the child advances through the program, the focus remains the same:
The children are learning the same scriptures that are used in Church. They learn through music, Bible stories and innovative lessons. Although much of their education is done with their teachers, an important part is accomplished during the time they spend at the service.
Children learn by watching and imitating. Look around the pews. These wonderful children are learning from their families and other parishioners. They are learning the behavior that is expected of them in Church. They are learning to stand for the Gospel, read from the BCP, and bow for the cross. They may wiggle more than their adult neighbors, but they are learning. Most importantly, they feel accepted. They share their prayers for things that are important in their lives. They are learning that God loves them and so do the people at St. Paul’s.
As Jesus said, "Let the children come unto me, do not stop them, for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs." Mark 10:14
The children are well on their way to another successful year. We have many exciting events planned to finish out the year. New students are always welcome. Bring a friend, have fun. Learn about God’s love, and share in the love here at St. Paul’s.
