A new lay ministry . . . Healing Ministry at St. Paul’s
"Are any among you sick? They should call for elders of the church and have them pray for them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord" - James 5:14 June '05 update The objective of the Healing Ministry is to promote the health of the whole person - body, mind and spirit. Jesus was a healer, teacher and prophet in his earthly ministry. The church is to continue the healing ministry. We may feel brokenness in some areas of our lives. The objective of the Healing Ministry is to help bring wholeness. The three aspects of this ministry are prayer, presence and prevention. We are forming a group for the Healing Ministry. We will start as a group some time soon for intercessory prayer and to conduct seasonal healing services in consultation with our rector. We will conduct training for the groups by the beginning of September. The Healing Team will also come up with a survey to find the needs of our congregation and then focus on those needs. If you are called to be part of this ministry, please call the church office ( 294-4357) or call me. I hope to hear from you. ~ James Jacob May '05 Healing of a broken world was an important part of Jesus’ ministry, and as his disciples we continue that ministry. It involves prayer for the sick, the grieving, the lonely and the hurting in our parish community and visiting them to provide a healing presence. The objective of this ministry is to provide the healing of the whole person, the body, mind and spirit. Our wholeness comes from a healthy functioning of these three areas in our lives. If one of these areas is hurting in our lives, then it affects our wholeness. We are the body of Christ, and each of us is a part of the whole. If one part of the body is hurting, then that will affect the whole body. St. Paul’s Church would like to start a healing ministry, and we need volunteers to form a team. It will involve taking some time to be together for prayer, and planning for the healing ministry. The main qualification for the team is to be wounded healers. We are all wounded at some time or other in our lives, and if we are willing to listen to others’ woundedness, then we provide healing for them and wholeness for the church body. If you are interested to learn about this ministry and would like to volunteer, please provide your name and phone number to the parish office (294-4357) or to me. May God provide you with the urge to take part in this blessed ministry. James Jacob
