An Inspiring Visit by Archbishop Carey

Our 300th Anniversary celebration year culminated in an inspiring visit by former Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey, who came to the United States specifically at the invitation of Father Phil to celebrate Eucharist and speak to us on a number of compelling topics. Archbishop Carey and Lady Eileen Carey were with us from Friday, October 19 through Monday, October 22, and we were greatly blessed by their visit. The Archbishop spoke to large and enthusiastic audiences in the Parish House on three occasions, and delivered several sermons during the weekend services. The Careys were delightful visitors and eloquent witnesses for “infectious Christianity”.

Thank you, Archbishop and Lady Carey, for truly gracing us with your presence, and thank you, Phil, for the blessing of their visit. Thanks also to the many St. Paul’s parishioners who made the Careys’ visit a very special one – in liturgy, hospitality, and well attended events.

What a memorable year we have had!

A Favourite Prayer of the 103rd Archbishop of Canterbury:

Lord Jesus Christ, the Master Carpenter of Nazareth, on a cross through wood and nails you have wrought man's salvation; wield well your tools in this workshop, so that we who come to you rough hewn, may by you be fashioned according to your will; for the sake of your tender mercy. Amen.
